How Pennsylvania compensates your excess solar generation
Full retail net metering is the statewide baseline for systems up to 3 MW. Annual true-up with payment for excess. SREC market (PA GATS) adds value; AEPS drives demand. PPL Electric Utilities (~1.4M accounts) hourly Price-to-Compare (PTC) is NOW ACTIVE (effective July 1, 2026) — PPL customers get ~$0.04089/kWh average export vs retail ~$0.05959/kWh (~31% lower) for non-grandfathered projects, per the PA PUC-approved rate-case settlement (approved June 4, 2026). Grandfathered projects retain prior full-retail crediting. Other PA utilities (PECO, Duquesne, FirstEnergy) remain on full-retail net metering. FirstEnergy DSP-VII rate case still in discovery; decision expected Fall 2026.
