Full retail net metering maintained under HB 589. Duke Energy offers standard NEM but its Net Metering Bridge Rate permanently closes to new applicants on December 31, 2026 (per NCUC ruling). Homeowners must submit interconnection requests before this deadline to lock in the more favorable bridge rate rather than transitioning to a lower future export structure. Systems up to 1 MW eligible. Monthly netting. Pending change: Duke Energy has proposed transitioning from full retail net metering to a time-of-use (TOU) export rate structure, currently under review by the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) — no effective rate change yet as of Aug 2026.
